Tea With George

A Mentor's Impact

George Caylor, Diane Gruber, Steve Putney Season 4 Episode 68

A Mentor’s Impact
Before my professional career launched many years ago, I found myself

working for an Electrical Contractor while in college. Marvin was an

amazing man and taught me the trade. He also taught me so many

lessons on life, business, relationships and so much more. We grew

close and maintained a tight friendship for meany years with him

coming to visit me each year on his birthday.
As my career began, I remember a time where I struggled with how I

would repay Marvin for all that he had taught me. I lamented that

often until, one day, I realized that I could NOT repay him. What I

COULD do is be a mentor to other young people coming up. The rest of

my career has been spent mentoring hundreds of young people, on

many things including the lessons Marvin taught me many years ago.

In March of 2022, I lost my dear friend and mentor and I hope this spot

honors his memory. Sometimes, you cannot repay a dept but are

expected to pass the honor forward to a new generation.
