Perch with Attitude
People have claimed for years that I am "certifiable." But I actually achieved my PADI Certification back in the 90s. The class was amazingly fun and we had access to the YMCA pool for training. In the safety of that pool, we learned all the skills required for the PADI program.
As our final test, we had to dive in a quarry to demonstrate our skills. It was a hot day and the water was warm so we were wearing swimsuits and basic SCUBA gear. We dove to a platform at 30 feet and waited our turn to demonstrate our assignment.
As we waited, I was amused to see a school of perch gathering around. They were not shy and if we remained still edged closer. It was then that I realized that I truly was the fresh meat in an alien world. Those cute little perch decided to start biting ear lobes, noses, fingers and ANY protrusion they thought would fit in their mouth.
We ALL gained a new respect for the fish we called “Killer Attack Piranha Perch.”
