April 8 When comedy was funny

I have a friend who doesn't need as much sleep as I do, and he goes to bed much later, and I ask him if he watches late-night comedy. He said, no, it's not comedy. It's just politically correct crap that borders on cruelty.  Jerry Seinfeld's interview a few years ago, lamenting the death of funny comedy. He said "Nowadays, you're afraid to insult anyone at all, unless you're insulting Christians, or conservatives, or straight white men, or families." And he has it right. Why watch something that's supposed to be funny, but it's not. In fact, it's worse. If the supermarket that once sold you nourishing food now sells poison, you wouldn't go there anymore. And no wonder late-night comedy has so few audience, compared to Johnny Carson, or Jay Leno, or Saturday Night Live, when it was funny.
